Aunt Nancy was a wonderful aunt. Whenever she was present, there was always joy and laughter. From the earliest of my memories, I recall how lively and enjoyable it was to visit with Nancy. There was always a crowd of kids running around. Nancy’s and Jane’s were plenty. Of course there were frequently other neighborhood kids mixing in or maybe the other Feits. In those years, the chaos made everything so much fun, but not every aunt would handle it the way Nancy did. She always seemed amused at the chaos and encouraged the fun.
I will always treasure our trip to Concord – especially the flashlight tag and the giant goldfish! And who could forget the Riordan Reunion in Evansville with cheese critters and the folding bed.
As I grew up, Nancy was always engaging and interested in hearing about me. She was always welcoming and loving. Her questions would lead me to reflect on myself in a different way. Her manner seemed to lead me to become more sure and more confident in my answers. I always felt at ease with her.
I recall when Nancy was in Chicago for Marilyn Feit’s funeral, she took it upon herself to ride in my car to the cemetery and to the restaurant. I was grateful for the opportunity to visit with her, but more than that, I was honored that she chose to spend her time with me.
Now that I think about it, I realize a part of the joy and laughter around her visits had something to do with Nancy and Jane being together. What a wonderful relationship they had. They always enjoyed each other so much.
